Welcome!

What is The Kauai Outdoor Circle (TKOC)?

We are a branch of the statewide organization known as The Outdoor Circle (TOC), the first environmental non-profit organization in the State.  We were formed by a group of concerned citizens almost 100 years ago.  Our mission is quite simple—-to keep Hawai‘i clean, green, and beautiful by preserving, protecting, and enhancing our environment for future generations.  What you see is what we protect.  What could be more valuable?

The Outdoor Circle has engaged in numerous activities to support this mission, such as:
  • Ridding the State of billboards in 1926
  • Starting recycling awareness in Hawai‘i
  • Starting anti-litter campaigns in Hawai‘i
  • Planting and protecting trees
  • Establishing the Exceptional Tree Ordinance
  • Protecting view planes
  • Providing environmental education for our children as well as adults
  • Advocating to have utility wires placed underground
  • Working to eliminate illegal and inappropriate signs
  • Protecting open space
  • Promoting and sponsoring community beautification projects

DID YOU KNOW?

  • TKOC planted many of the trees that are flourishing in our parks and roadsides
  • TKOC started recycling efforts
  • TKOC originated The Exceptional Tree Ordinance that protects and preserves exceptional trees statewide
  • TKOC pressed to establish the Mayor’s Arborist Committee to help with tree perils
  • TKOC sponsors numerous workshops on tree care and other relevant topics that support our mission, many of them are free to members
  • TKOC continues to support efforts to eliminate illegal signs
  • TKOC participates in several community-enhancing programs such as the free tree give-away on Arbor Day, National Make a Difference Day, Kauai Garden Fair, and Kauai The Beautiful Program
  • TKOC has been nationally recognized by The Arbor Day Foundation and National Make a Difference Day for our good work

HAVE YOU EVER ASKED?

  • What can I do to save these beautiful trees?
  • How can I learn more about plants and trees?
  • What can I do to protect our open spaces?
  • What can I do to eliminate visual clutter?
  • What can I do to eliminate illegal signs and banners?
  • What can I do to enhance the beauty of our Island home?
  • How can I work with like-minded people?

Then…..YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO JOIN THE KAUAI OUTDOOR CIRCLE
